The Beauty Much Maligned
The beauty much maligned cannot abide
Her reputation's sullied form, and shapes
Another destiny fulfilled to hide
Abominable foul discredit, capes
Her shame she would not own, her face disclaims
Apparent misapplied dishonour, would
Seek benefit of some new-fashioned aims
To sanctify a statue of her stood
In argument of praise, she is apart
From documents of fiction which describe
Her falsely, finds her weeping out a heart
Of sorrow steeped in shades she would inscribe.
To look into a mirror faces her
She sees no visage so disgraces her.
