through the window
I sit here looking
Ever looking
Wondering thinking
Why are they so happy
Playing games
Until the break of night
Never hate
Never fight
I see the years and days go by
Soon one day
I will be old enough to play
But for now I wait
And not hesitate
For I understand I'm young
Soon old enough to play
Waste the day away
With games that go on so that's okay
I watch back through the window
As I waste the day away
Fun and games but needless to say
I see a smile on my dads face
Like a memory of a saving grace
Perhaps one day ill understand why
There was a smile a a tearful cry
The years of play have past
As in sit back at the window
The leaves look different now so does it all
My days are filled with endless choices
Some hard some easy
The nights a longer and the days feel short
As my breath get heavier now fun did last but the time for play is in the past
I sit in my chair look down at my grandson tell him
Do not worry little one
For his time will come
his play time in the sun
Watch as he is out in playing in field looking at me through the window
Life is taking me soon an I know, tears well up inside he smiles at me and my smile is starting to show
Tear rolls from my cheek
Now I know what my dad felt like all those years ago
