Hallway light
I see the light from my bed
Through the door of my darkened room
Like the light from an operating theatre
Casting a glow like a flower in full bloom
It radiates my messy hallway
And illuminates my yellow stained stairs
Revealing things I’d forgotten about
A sweet wrapper left over from Christmas and the label from a bag of pears
The staircase carpet looks very dirty
Full of stains and clumps of fluff
I see a circle of dried up curry
And a freedom bound full of hope tiny little sugar puff
Oh there’s my superman housecoat
Next to the black marked spindle wood
I always forget to wear it in the morning
It’s so cold I really really should
The light is starting to dim
It flickers and dances with the night
Is it a ghost come to say hello
No it’s just the bulb that has given up its fight
Supposed I best go to sleep then
Nothing to see anymore
It’s pitch black outside on that landing
And quite scary from my bed and through the door
